First word??

Wyatt MIGHT have said his first word on March 21!!!! I mean, a lot of times, he sounds like he’s saying words but it doesn’t sound OBVIOUSLY DELIBERATE like he knows that THAT WORD equals THIS OBJECT… So a couple of days prior, I was giving him a bath in his little baby tub and I was trying to distract him while I was snipping away at his hair with shears… I kept pointing to the rubber ducky and saying, “Duck… Ducky… Duck… Yes, duck!!” Then I didn’t bathe him the following day. And on the 21st, I put him in his tub full of water, then I went to rinse his bath toys at the sink. Then I dropped them (1 duck and 2 doggies) into his tubby. He looked AT the duck and said, “Duck.” With a very deliberate “ck” sound at the end of the word. Might have been coincidence, I’ll never know!!!!!!!!!! He’s such a perfect baby. I think about him and I just feel warm stuff fill up my chest and come up my throat, just warm fuzziness!!!! (No, it’s not acid reflux.)

Wyatt is SUCH a good baby!!!!! He’s teething and stuff so he always wants to chomp on his pacifier. Now that he’s practically 11 months old, I really should think about how to wean him off of it. But anyway, if he drops his pacifier, he’ll whine for it. If you pull it out of his mouth, he’ll whine too. So I was REALLY tired and had another hour until his bed time. I took him to a bed to play with him on it so he could flop around and I could flop down. Well, I didn’t really get to flop at all cuz he kept going for the edge of the bed so I had to keep blocking him & picking him up & relocating him. Then he laid on his back and he had dropped his pacifier. He picked it back up himself and he was using his two little hands to position it so he could plop it back into his mouth. I had my hand on his bib cuz I wanted to give his chin a quick wipe (of all the drool). As he went to stuff the pacifier into his mouth, I pulled up the bib to block it. He tried again, I blocked the pacifier with the bib again. He would get a look on his face like, “Why is there fabric in my mouth….” He kept trying and I kept blocking. He started laughing hysterically. We both just started laughing hysterically. We just laughed and laughed and laughed til our bellies ached. He was still trying and I was still blocking him each time. And I just felt so blessed. What a sweetheart. What a good baby! Instead of getting pissed off that he couldn’t get his pacifier into his mouth, he was having a good old time with his mommy. I love him sooo much.

Last night, BB slept from 8pm to 8am without feeding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He did whine or cry a bunch of times… At 4:30am, when he was crying, I thought I’d have to give him 1.5 oz cuz that’s when he usually just can’t be hungry anymore (for the past week or so since I’ve started weaning him). But after crying for a couple of minutes, he passed out again! And I think it’s because I let him move to a different spot & plop his face sideways onto the comforter to sleep. Let’s see if we can repeat it tonight!!!!

Pizza Lover

Today, YY and I went to Mamma Lucia for lunch before going to Trader Joe’s. We each got pizza slices and shared a tuna salad & an order of calamari. I always feel bad when BB is sitting at the table (in a highchair today!) with nothing to do. So I cut off bits of pizza for him. He ate a lot of bites!!!! And swallowed most of it!!!!! I was surprised that he could mush up the dough and swallow it without choking!! So proud of him… Guess I ate enough pizza when I was pregnant, he seems to love pizza.

I just smelled something burning. Honey & BB are both sleeping. I ran to the kitchen to see if my stove was on. It must’ve been the apartment below us. I checked the hallway and no smokey burning smell in the hall. I kept running around sniffing to make sure it wasn’t getting worse. If it did, I’d have to evacuate us!!!!!!! No one is gonna burn my family!!!!!!!!

9 months checkup

Yesterday, we took BB to his 9 months checkup a week late. He weighed 20 lbs and 1 oz. And he measured 29 inches long. He’s doing great!!!!! His weight percentile is 80% and his height percentile is also 80%!!!! *proud mama* That means he’s very proportional and he’s a big boy :-)))) Dr. Nguyen said that I HAVE to wean him from his night feedings. Because as more teeth come in, I’m just setting him up for cavities if I keep letting him eat in his sleep (I guess cuz he wouldn’t be brushing his teeth after getting fed in his sleep). And she said that if they work on cavities on a small child, they will put him under general anesthetics!!!!! Woah, that’s one way to make me pay attention. So starting tonight, I’m giving him 1 oz less per night feeding. Plus I’ll try to delay the feedings as much as possible, I’ll give him his pacifier to see if it’ll hold him off. He’s sooo cute. I look at the recent pics I took of him and I just melt. I don’t know what to do with his hair tho!!!! The hair on top of his head stick straight up. but all the other hair lie down flat against his head. Haha…

Ok I made a mistake before. I thought BB’s 2nd tooth had partially broke through his gum but it had NOT. Still waiting… *tap* *tap* *tap*

He sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me, my sister, John & James went to have dinner. He was really good at it too, LOL… And he also threw my cellphone onto the floor 3 times. The back lid flew off and the battery flew out. He was getting a bit restless sitting there. Plus it was past his usual bedtime. I gave him my phone to play with because he goes NUTS for cellphones, iPods, laptop computers… He fights to get his hands on them like NOTHING ELSE. I never see him act that way over any toy!

He’s been eating every 3 hours or less through the past two nights!!!!! Holy crap, that makes me tired. I can’t even believe it. I feed him, turn around, he’s crying in his sleep again! Hope it’s a growth spurt :-)

I forgot to check in and post about BB’s first tooth!!!! We’ve been seeing the bumps under his lower front gums for a while. Finally, in New York for the weekend, in the early a.m. hours of November 7 Sunday, BB’s first tooth broke through his gums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Taa daaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! He’s always a bit fussy the first night he has to sleep somewhere (that isn’t home). But maybe he was especially fussy because the tooth was pushing through! If I am looking at BB face-to-face, it’s his lower front tooth that’s on MY right. That’s his first tooth!!!!!

Today is November 14, in the morning when I was changing his diaper at 6:30 or so, I checked to see if any other teeth showed up because he was fussy last night (and the night before). And I saw that his OTHER lower front tooth (the one on MY left if I am facing him) broker through a TINY bit!!!!! Not the whole top of it broke through but one side of the top did. He’s so cute…

Also, I’m going to say that he can crawl now. I have yet to see him do it on the floor or the foam mat that we put on the floor. He doesn’t seem to want to get on all fours & crawl when he’s on the floor. But when I play with him in bed, he moves ALL over the place!! And last night, when I was putting him in bed, he was doing his usual bulldozing… He can’t just GO TO SLEEP. He has to plow around the bed & roll around & sit up & fall down & bulldoze his head into piles of blankets for 20 minutes to an hour before he’ll fall over & sleep. So during his bulldozing session before bed last night, I saw him do a crawl for a few seconds. I didn’t really think anything of it at the time. Then this morning, after he woke up, we played in bed for half an hour. I saw him crawl again! He had his head up, belly off the bed, standing on all fours and then pushing/coordinating his arms & legs properly to move forward! So I’m gonna say that he knows how to crawl now. He tried to stand in bed too, it’s so funny. Because the bed is really soft foam. So he stood up, used his hands to hold onto my leg for balance and then just stood there wobbling.

He’s such a happy baby. He just plays and then when I look at him, he smiles at me. I love him!!!!!!!!

Okay, whatever I said before about how maybe BB’s sleeping thru the night? NEVER MIND. Almost as soon as I posted that last entry, he woke up crying. He’s still feeding in the night every 4 hours or so. And even when he’s not feeding, he fusses a bit, I have to check on him as soon as he whines. Usually he just doesn’t like the blankets pushed up against him or he wants his pacifier back in his mouth. I can’t just let him cry and soothe himself back to sleep because he moves around a lot if I don’t go to him while he’s crying. So if I just *leave him alone*, he’ll end up on the floor! Like… last night… He’d gone to bed and I went to cook some cauliflower. I forgot to turn the baby monitor back on so I didn’t hear him. After a while, I thought I heard crying, then I ran into the room. He was on the floor, poor thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And whatever he was doing made him puke out his dinner (baby food, squash flavored). I picked him up and held him and tried to soothe him. He stopped crying but he was still doing that heavy air-suck that kids do after they’d been crying really hard. After a while, I put him down and he was still doing that air-suck at 3 second intervals. I saw him lying there on his side doing the air-suck. I just felt sooo rotten. I brushed my hand back & forth on his head til he fell asleep. Sorry, BB!!!! Sorry for making you cry!!!!!! Mommy didn’t mean to :-(

Today was Halloween! BB’s first Halloween! He dressed up as the Dark Knight/Batman. He hated the mask/cape. He hates when anything covers up his eyes. We didn’t go trick or treating since he can’t walk yet. But I took some pics of him in his costume and made a video. And we went to Target to buy some stuff but he didn’t have to wear the mask, haha… I can’t wait til next year when I can probably take him trick or treating!! And I want to do stuff like carve pumpkins and go to haunted forests with him!

He still can’t crawl. But he’s trying to stand up. I totally realize that I don’t practice enough with him because I always prefer to keep him on cushy surfaces like the sofa or bed… Otherwise I hold him or he’s in the bouncer. Once in a while, he’s in the playpen. But I really need to let him be on the floor. I have to stop being paranoid that he’ll fall and the floor won’t cushion his head enough. Today, I decided to do some exercises with him. I held him by his armpits and let him get up & down on his legs (on the floor). And I put him sitting down on the floor, then I took his hands and let him pull himself up. He mainly used his legs to push upward. Then I was sitting there (on the floor still) and he was laying with his head & shoulders on my lap. He squirmed around then he climbed his way up my stomach, chest… He climbed until he was standing up! So I just used one arm to brace his chest but I tried to let him have room to find his own balance. Maybe he’ll be one of those babies that don’t crawl? My cousin Adrian never crawled. He just started walking one day.

Sleeping thru the night?

Beginning last night, which was 2 days before BB turns 8 months old, he slept through the night without any feedings! He still gave out little cries once in a while, but I would just give him his pacifier and he would fall right back asleep. So last night, he slept from 7:30 until 7:30am without any bottles! Just all of a sudden, just like that. It’s amazing the way babies develop… Just 2 days ago, he was feeding 3–sometimes even 4–times a night! And tonight, he hasn’t needed a feeding SO FAR… Right now, it’s 4am. What a cute baby… He’s so cute when he’s sleeping. I just look at him and I smile from ear to ear. When I see him sleeping, I want to hug him and snuggle with him and squeeze him! But I don’t want to wake him so usually I just give him a few kisses. He’s so perfect!!

I’m still here! We are doing great! Well, BB went to stay with my parents for 3 days this past weekend. Aside from Honey’s bday party on Saturday night, I used the rest of the time to sleep. And yet I still feel exhausted!!!!!!!!! I’m going to see a doctor. Maybe I just never got caught up on rest. If I think about it, I’ve been sleep deprived for the whole nearly-eight months that BB’s been here, but I was sleep-deprived at the end of my pregnancy too (because it was so difficult to get comfortable).

BB’s a big beautiful boy and he is so cute. He can sit up pretty well now! Yesterday, he sitting with his back really slouched against the back of the sofa. And just when I was about to lift him up to straighten his back, he leaned up on his own and sat up unsupported with his back straight!!!! He loves playing in his Baby Einstein bouncer. And he wants to crawl. Actually he wants to walk, I can tell, haha… Well, so far, he can’t quite crawl. He gets on all fours and then he rocks back & forth like he’s either catapulting himself forward or like he’s humping something, LOL…

Everything he grabs goes into his mouth… EVERYTHING! His bottom front teeth are going to show through the gums soon, my mom noticed the white “bumps”. (I didn’t even know what to look for.) He’s still drooling like crazy. And he babbles with more different sounds now. I keep saying the vowels to him, “A… E… I… O… U…” And then he goes, “O… OoOOOoOO… Ahh… Ehh…” LOL He’s sooo cute.

Now that the weather is getting cooler, he will have to wear pants whenever we go out, as well as shoes, socks. I was really enjoying just lugging him around in his onesies! I love that winter is coming, because I prefer cold weather. But then I’ll have to worry about him getting sick. I don’t want him to catch the flu, it’ll scare me to death!
